MARTINBOROUGH
INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fifth birthday party of the Dyerville Women’s Institute was held in the Dyerville Hall yesterday afternoon, many visitors being present from neighbouring Institutes. The function opened with the reading of the Institute Creed after which Betty Garrity sang a soecial birthday song. The following rendered items: —Misses Joan Hall (song) K. Pryor (piano accordion solos), Molly McGullicuddy and Peggy Mclntosh (sailor’s hornpipe), Pat Smith (recitation), and Joan Wrigley (song), all of whom were enthusiastically applauded. During afternoon tea time the president (Mrs A. Jamieson) expressed pleasure at seeing so many visitors present and called upon Mrs Jolly and Mrs McKenna, both of whom extended birthday greetings on behalf of their respective Institutes, to officiate at the ceremony of lighting the candles and cutting the birthday cake. The visiting presidents were presented with dainty shoulder sprays. The competitions were won by Mrs Fuge, Mrs McKenna and Miss K. Pryor. The singing of the National Anthem brought to a close a very happy and pleasant gathering. Personals. Mr Tucker is spending the weekend in Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs T. Bird have returned to Pirinoa, and Mrs T. Conwell, sister of Mrs F. Bird, is spending a few days with them. Mr C. Gair is an inmate of Tiri Hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis.
Miss M. Aitchison has returned home from Wellington.
