MEETING OF WAIRARAPA SOCIETY. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SHOW. (“Times-Age” Special.) Various arrangements for the approaching show were discussed at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, held at Carterton today. The president, Mr J. Fisher, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The treasurer, Mr G. Brown, reported a credit bank balance of £523 9s sd. Accounts amounting to £lO6 7s 7d were passed. The tender of Mr F. Yule was accepted for the publican’s booth on Show days, and that of the Wairarapa Ice Cream Company for the ice cream booth for three years. “The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is making a great song about cruelty to bobby calves,” remarked Mr A. E. Hall, who said that in the Wairarapa bobby calves had never been treated better before. There was nothing wrong with the cartage system and it was unfair for the Society to make so much comment on the alleged treatment. Mr G. Hart said no complaints could be made regarding the treatment of bobby calves in the Wairarapa. He could not, however, speak for other districts. The Martinborough Borough Council wrote stating that business firms had been asked to close their premises from 10 a.m. on People’s Day. while the Masterton Borough Council stated that firms had been asked to close from U a.m. Mr W. M. Stewart, of Feildmg. advised that ho would be pleased to judge the Romney Marsh (open) section at the Carterton 'Shovz. Seven new members were elected and one resignation was. received. The question of obtaining a band for Show day was left to a small committee. It was suggested that if possible the services of the "Wairarapa College Pipe Band be secured. The secretary. Mr L. H. Smart, pointed out that entries for the Show closed next week and he appealed to members and breeders generally to support the fixture as much as they possibly could.
