STATE THEATRE

“WIFE, DOCTOR AND NURSE.” Drama with a twinkle in its eye and a catch in its heart is found in “Wife, Doctor and Nurse,” wise and witty picture starring Loretta Young, Warner Baxter and Virginia Bruce, which will be shown again tonight at the State Theatre. All that audiences ever loved in these three great stars are blended in the romantic drama of three modern people who know less than they think they do about the tricks love can play—the wife, modern, but not quite modern enough to share her husband —the doctor, who has two women in love with him and cannot give up either one—and the nurse, so intimately a part of this man’s life. Doctor Warner Baxter has little time to notice the beauty and charm of his efficient nurse, Virginia Bruce. Called on an emergency case in which a beautiful girl, Loretta Young, has dislocated her arm, he falls in love with his patient and they are married. When he falls asleep after a major operation which had consumed the greater part of a night, Virginia impetuously kisses the doctor. Then she realises that under the circumstances she cannot continue working for the man with whom she is in love. This departure of his most indispensable aide causes Baxter to become restless and irritable. A compromise, dramatic, yet amusing and entertaining, is effected and becomes the solution to one of the year’s most exceptional pictures. An important supporting cast • includes Jane Darwell, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Cass, Minna Gombell and Margaret Irving. An excellent supporting programme will also be shown.
