The Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting opened in fine but threatening weather, but beyond mild showers the card was got off under better conditions than expected. Defaulter lost his race through over-confidence on the part of his rider, and Winning Rival won the McLean Stakes under conditions that will make her very dangerous in future engagements.
