GREYTOWN
TOWN LANDS TRUST. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the members of the Greytown Town Lands Trust was held last night. Messrs H. G. Carter, W. H. Day, F. Dennes and H. J. Nightingale were present. The secretary, Mr B. Kiernan, stated that owing to the death of the late chairman (Mr D. B. Loasby) the first business of the meeting would be the appointment of a new chairman. On the motion of Mr H. J. Nightingale, seconded by Mr W. H. Day, Mr H. G. Carter was elected chairman. Mr Carter paid a tribute to the long service given to the Trust by the late Mr D. P. Loasby. A motion of sympathy was passed to the family of the late Mr Loasby. Accounts passed for payment (mostly borough rates) amounted to £72 ss. The secretary reported that he had received payment from the Government Department for sections taken for housing purposes. Nominations are to be called for the vacancy on the Trust caused by the death of Mr D. P. Loasby. The question of the supply and quality of gas complained of by occupiers of Trust houses was referred to the borough gas manager for a report. This service, it was stated, had been very unsatisfactory for some months, one tenant complaining that she had to put 3/ in th? meter to get sufficient hot water for a bath. Ladies’ Guild. The members of St Luke’s Ladies’ Guild held their monthly meeting in the Parish Hall with an attendance of 19 members. Mrs York presided and apologies were received from Mesdames Duff, Wiggins, Davis, Kidd, Richards, Burns and Canon Sykes. The secretary reported having paid the church cleaner and the vicarage rates during the month. An urn for use in the Parish Hall had been purchased. Arrangements were made lo have the usual supper in the hall after the Patronal Festival service on Tuesday, October 18, the arrangements being Jef t in the hands of Mesdames Rees and Day.It was decided to hold the next meeting on November 2, instead of the day previous to “markelt day,” which had been fixed for November 4. Further preparations for “market day” were discussed. The hostesses, Mesdames Carter and Slater, served afternoon tea which was very much appreciated and for which they were heartily thanked. St Luke’s “market day” will be officially opened by the Rev J. T. Holland, Vicar of Featherston. Personal. Mr F. C. Long will be the preacher at St' Luke’s Patrol Festival on October 18, and Mr E. Graham will be the soloist. Mr and Mrs H. J. Nightingale have returned from a holiday spent in Nelson.
