The Chinese Embassy in London reports that the Chinese have relieved the pressure of the Japanese advance towards the Peking-Hankow Railway by retaking Kwangshan, south of Kwangchen, killing a thousand Japanese and also recapturing Mushihkang, east of Yanghsin. Lankanpu is still the scene of savage fighting, which is holding up the Japanese. IN THE YANGTSE VALLEY. IMPORTANT GAINS CLAIMED BY JAPANESE. (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) TOKIO, October 6.
Japanese mine-sweepers are pushing up the Yangtse-Kiang from Tunchiacheng. Landing parties from warships have driven the Chinese to the hills near Panpisshan. The Japanese claim the capture of Koki. inflicting losses totalling 7.300 killed and 14,700 wounded and state that they have shaken the Chinese occupancy of Tiean and Nanchang.
