GOLF COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special) The final round for the handicap cup was played during ine weekend when Mrs McGregor ■ and Mrs McKinstry halved in the ladies’ contest and Mr W. Kummer won tne men’s handicap. Mrs Schofield defeated Mrs McKinstry in a Kummerstein Cup match, and A. McGregor defeated S. Gray, in a challenge for the Nimmo Cup. • Next weekend the annual inter-club match with Bideford will be played on the Bideford linKs, and all players are requested to be prompt on time as play is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. ' As Mr B. Roberts, Labour candidate for Wairarapa, will be delivering an address at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon there will be no golf match on that day. Golf Ball. The annual golf ball was held on Saturday evening last and was an outstanding success in every way and has again proved to be the most popular function held ; in the district. Visitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa, representing the many golf clubs in the district, and the capacity of . the hall was severely taxed. The hall was tastefully decorated with lycopodium streamers and flowers and a first-class supper was served and enjoyed by all. The music was supplied by Barnes’s Rhythm Boys, who responded generously to numerous encores during the evening. Mr D. O’Brien made an efficient M.C. The committee wish to thank all those who contributed towards the supper arrangements, and especially the visitors for their patronage in making the ball the success it undoubtedly was. Rainfall. The rainfall in the Te Wharau district during September was 9.78 inches compared with 6.67 inches for the same month last year. The totaL-for the nine months is now 54.01 inches, as compared with 39.30 inches for the same period in 1937.
