SHUNTING MISHAP
LUCKY ESCAPE FOR SEVERAL RACE HORSES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. This Day. An accident which occurred at the railway shunting yards might have thinned cut the field at the Dunedin races today. After their arrival by express train from the north, 16 horses were shunted into a side line prior to continuing the journey to Wingatui. The horse boxes were dashed into a stationary engine, with the result that, the first horse box suffered consider-’ able damage by the force of the impact. Density got down in her stall. Defaulter suffered slight damage close to an eye and Passaform also got a bad bump. Colonel Rouge, Sparkle, Rousseau and Density were in the smashed box and in the second, Passaform, Neptune and Defaulter. All the horses were worked at Wingatui yesterday, and seemed to be free from serious effects.
