MOUNT HOLDSWORTH
VISITED BY VARIOUS PARTIES. On Saturday last a bus load of boys from the Wairarapa College paid a visit to Mount Holdsworth and were favoured with splendid weather. They had dinner at the trig at 12 o’clock. Considerable snow was found on the western slopes, and the boys soon had an exciting time. The return trip was made down the river track. On the previous Sunday a working party from the Wairarapa Tramping Club visited the Mountain House, taking up some coils of cyclone wire netting and a new window, which were provided by the Mt Holdsworth Club. The window was placed in the north gable and four bunk bottoms replaced with the netting. One member of the party was detached to act as guide to a large party of Wellington and Wairarapa hockey girls, many of whom ultimately reached the Mountain House. They apparently enjoyed their experience in spite of a strenuous tournament the previous day. An unusual feature on both trips was the large number of Red Admiral outterflies seen at the Mountain House. They actually outnumbered the blowflies. Before leaving the party was joined by two lads from Longbush, who had made a weekend trip along the range from the Mitre to Mt Holdsworth, quite a creditable performance. From October 1 to March 31 it is illegal to light fires in the open in State forests. Visitors to such forests are, therefore, notified that after tne disastrous fires of last year, special supervision is being exercised in this connection.
