MASTERTON BUILDING SOCIETY
SHAREHOLDERS’ ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the shareholders in the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society, was held yesterday afternoon at the society’s office in Queen Street, Masterton, the chairman of directors, Mr D. M. Graham, presiding. Opening the proceedings, the chairman said: “Before taking the general business it is fitting that I should refer to the sad loss to the community in general and this society in particular, through the death of our late manager, Mr J. B. Keith. By his innate courtesy and profound knowledge he was to many of us a guide, pnilosopher and friend. I now move: “That the shareholders of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society desire to place on record their deep appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr J. B. Keith over a long period of years; also that a letter, conveying deeply felt condolenceswith deceased’s widow and family, be sent to Mrs Keith.” The motion was seconded by Mr E. G. Eton, in a feeling manner, ana those present signified their acquiescence by standing and remaining silent for a few moments. The adoption of the annual report and balance sheet was moved by the chairman, who said the figures presented showed that the society was in a sound position and indicateu stead} progress. The motion was seconded by Mr J. L. Hughes and carried unanimously. The two retiring directors, Messrs E. J. Brown and H. M. Boddington. were declared re-elected, there being no other candidates.' The previous auditors, Messrs N. H. James and G. W. Sellar, were reelected, without opposition. At a subsequent meeting of the directors Mr Alexander Keith was appointed manager of the society, and Mr D. M. Graham was re-elected chairman of directors.
