THREE WINS TO MR DEVON. SUCCESS OF MASTERTON HORSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OTAKI, October 1. A feature of the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s spring meeting on Saturday was the success of horses carrying the colours of Mr Walter Devon, of Masterton, who won £50,000 in a Melbourne Cup consulation when Wotan won the Melbourne Cup. Mr Devon won three races, the maiden with Colfort at long odds; the Ling Memorial with Lucullus Lad; and the open sprint race with Gay Chou. Colfort and Gay Chou are Australian-bred. Mr Devon’s horses are trained at Masterton by A. Jenkins, who also rode them on Saturday.

Considering that there was one fourhorse field, the club did well to get within £4OO of last year’s totalisator turnover, the sum of £15,133 10s being handled, compared with £15,524 at the spring meeting in 1937.
