MIDGETS MARRIED
Women fainted and were trampled on among thousands of holiday-mak-ers who gathered at Blackpool on July 6 to see a 40-inch bridegroom, a 38-inch bride, and four bridesmaids all under inches. Police cleared a way for 28-year-old Herman Retter and his bride, 27-year-old Annie Kneps, both German circus performers, to enter Talbot Road Roman Catholic Church. It was the biggest audience of their careers. “We are very, very happy,” said Herman. “We hope to have a little cottage in the Rhineland when we go back to Germany at the end of October ” They were married in evening dress, and their wedding cake was nearly as tall as themselves.
