WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT MT. BRUCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The September meeting of the Mt. Bruce Women’s Institute was held in the Hall. Owing to the absence of the president through sickness the chair was taken by Mrs H. West. A demonstration was given by Mrs S. Munn of the Solway-Manaia Institue, on miniature gardens. Mrs Munn also distributed numbers of midget rock plants among those present. The competitions were: Rock gardens, Mrs R. E. Campbell 1, Mrs D. McLachlan 2; knitted article,, Miss M. Reader 1, Mrs C. L. Welch 2; blooms, Mrs D. McLachlan, polyanthus 1, Miss Ida Reader, polyanthus, 2. A competition (noted characters) was conducted by the hostesses Miss Allington and Miss M. West and was won by Miss Ena McLean.
