SOUTH AFRICA’S STATUS

DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENTS. An important extension of South Africa's representation overseas is provided for in the new Budget. By raising the status of the Trade Commissioner in Montreal to that .of a diplomatic Accredited Representative at Ottawa, a beginning has been made with the appointment of representatives to the other Dominions. A Charge d'Affaires .is being appointed in Tokio and an Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Lisbon. Certain Consular offices are also being opened. There will be a Consul and Vice-Consul in New York, in addition to the Minister who has been stationed for some years at Washington, and a Consular office in Buenos Aires. The staff of the High Commissioner’s office in London is to be increased by the appointment of a Press Relations Officer.
