PRICE OF LEMONS
t CITRUS GROWERS CONCERNED. MINISTER TO BE INTERVIEWED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAURANGA, September 28. A meeting of citrus growers was held at Tauranga yesterday afternoon to consider the present serious situation in the industry. The chairman of the Tauranga Citrus Fruit Association, Mr W. G. Strange, said that last week the price of lemons had fallen to zero. Correspondence with the Minister of Marketing urging assistance to co-operative interests was read. It was resolved that the New Zealand Citrus Council be asked to meet in Tauranga immediately to discuss the position and submit a recommendation to the Minister of Marketing, and also to ask the Government to effect the marketing of lemons under the Marketing Department as with oranges and bananas. It is also to be recommended to the Minister that nurserymen be prevented from supplying trees to commercial orchardists and from importing trees. The chairman announced that a meeting of the Citrus Council would be arranged, and that a deputation would meet the Hon. W. Nash tomorrow.
