Long Ambulance Trip.
One of the longest trips undertaken by a St John ambulance was a journey of over 500 miles from Hamilton to Wanganui and return, which was made by a machine from the Hamilton station during the week-end. Driven by Mr J. Scobie, officer in charge of the Hamilton branch, the ambulance travelled to Wanganui on Saturday and returned on Sunday. It carried a patient from Gordonton to a private hospital in Wanganui.
Candidate Withdraws. The former member of Parliament for Gisborne, Mr W. D. Lysnar, announced yesterday his withdrawal as Independent candidate at the elections, thus leaving the way clear for a straight-out contest between the sitting Labour member, Mr D. W. Coleman, and me National Party nominee, Mr K. F. Jones. It is Mr Lysnar’s intention to continue a Dominion-wide campaign to educate and arouse public opinion regarding reforms in the operations of trusts and combines, an overhaul of marketing arrangements for the Dominion's produce, and provision of a more satisfactory finance for farmers through agricultural banks.
