Radio Station Bought.
McCracken and Wall’s well-known radio station 4ZM, which is one of the two remaining B stations operating in Otago, has been acquired by the Gov-
ernment, the purchase price being £2250. So far the future of the station is undecided and, pending a decision by the Minister of Broadcasting, it will remain on the air. Pig Taken in Custody. A small pig which provided considerable entertainment for passers-by in the Queen’s Gardens, Dunedin, recently, is being held at the City Police Station until it is claimed by its owner. The pig has been placed in a cell and is probably the most unusual occupant ever to be billeted there. Certainly it is the least concerned about its surroundings. Fierce Hailstorm. A hailstorm unprecedented in intensity swept a portion of Otamatea County on Tuesday, covering the hills to a depth of six inches, states a Whangarei Press Association telegram. On some roads cars had difficulty in forcing their way through practically solid ice. Power board employees were forced to cease work because of lightning. Despite the hailstorm the day was warm and sultry.
