A Masterton visitor to Wellington is Mrs V. Burridge. Mrs Percy Nathan, Masterton, is a visitor to Wellington. Miss Joan Palmer, Masterton, is spending a holiday at Kilbirnie (Wellington). Mr and Mrs F. Weldon, Wellington, were the weekend visitors of Mrs T. M. Harvey, “Mangatete,” Featherston. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Lillian Verdun (Deon), elder daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Pam, Kaituna, to Bernard Taplin, younger son of Mr and Mrs J. Cane, of 16 Tararua Street, Masterton. CARTERTON (“Times-Age” Special.) Dr and Mrs W. J. C. Wells, Carterton, who will leave at the end of this week by the Port Hunter for England, are at present visiting Christchurch. Mrs L. M. Taverner, of Greatford, and her daughter, Mrs S. M. Chaffey, of Mount Somers, were weekend visitors to Mr and Mrs D. L. Taverner, at Carterton.
At the Dalefield Church on Sunday afternoon Miss L. Jones was presented with the diploma of the National Sunday Schools Union in recognition of continuous and faithful service in the Sunday School. Mr J. A. Ordish, an old resident of the district, referred to Miss Jones’s service in Sunday school work, remarking that his first acquaintance with her was when she was a scholar at Matarawa. The Rev H. White, minister in charge of the Carterton circuit, made the presentation, which Miss Jones briefly acknowledged. Opportunity was also made to present a diploma co Mr E. N. Tunnicliffe, until recently a teacher and superintendent of the school. In Mr Tunnicliffe’s absence in the Auckland district, where he is now residing, the diploma was handed to his sister, Mrs A. Saywell, of Greytown. '
