INQUEST AT HOSPITAL
DEATH OF MASTERTON GIRL. HEARING ADJOURNED SINE DIE. An inquest was opened at the Masterton Hospital this morning into the circumstances surrounding the death of Elsie Ammundsen, a 21-year-old Masterton domestic servant, who died in the hospital yesterday. The District Coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, presided, and Detective-Sergeant W. Kane conducted the case for the police. Evidence of identification was given by William John minkhorn, who said deceased had been keeping company with his son and was to have become engaged to him on her birthday, which was next month. Dr P. R. Cook, who attended the girl and later sent her to hospital, gave evidence and also Dr N. H. Prior, who attended her in hospital. Both stated that death was due to septic abortion and agreed that her condition was consistent with the event being brought about by a fall. D’Prior said there were no signs of an instrument having been used on the girl. If one had been used, he would most probably have seen signs when he performed an operation. At the request of the police the inquest was adjourned sine die.
