ADDRESS AT HUKANUI
+ LARGE ATTENDANCE TO HEAR MR J. H. IRVING. NON-FULFILLED ELECTION PLEDGES. There was an attendance of over a hundred electors at the Hukanui Hall last evening, when a political address was given by Mr J. H. Irving, National Party candidate for the Masterton seat. Mr. W. Twentyman presided and the meeting was a most enthusiastic one. Mr. Irving dealt with the nonfulfilment of Labour’s 1935 election pledges. Labour, he said, had failed to abolish the sales tax or to reduce the exchange rate. Mr Irving also made reference to the National Party’s manifesto and his remarks were frequently applauded. On the motion of Mr. H. C. Billington, the candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address, with an assurance that confidence in him and the party would be expressed on election day.
