LANSDOWNE CRICKET CLUB
REPORT ON PAST SEASON. The annual report of the Lansdowne Cricket Club states: —The club succeeded in winning the Wairarapa senior championship and also successfully defended the Bidwill Cup. The captain and the team are to be congratulated on their performance, which no doubt was due to the good fellowship and team spirit displayed at all times. The batting averages were headed as follows: —A. McCalmont, 36; S. Brice, 35; D. V. Groves, 32; A. H. Stubbings, 29; E. Jenkins, 24. Bowling honours went to S. Brice who captured 26 wickets at an average cost of 8.6 runs, followed by D. V. Groves 30 wickets at an average of 12.5, S. L. Jenkins 9 wickets at an average of 13.3, and A. Whiteman 30 wickets for an average of 14. We w’ish to extend on behalf of our club our congratulations to W. Peterson and F. Hoar for winning the Arthur Hoar Memorial Cup and the D. K. Logan Memorial Cup for the best batting and bowling averages secured, in the senior competition. It is the wish of the retiring committee to see a junior team entered in this year’s competition, and this no doubt will depend largely upon the number of players who wish to seek a game. We are indebted to the following for donations: —F. W. Groves, S. Cooper, A. V. Faulk - nor, E. Welch, G. Whiteman. The club’s thanks are due to Mr H. A. Cunningham. our hon. auditor, and also to the custodians at the Park and Wairarapa College, who were responsible for the excellent match wickets played on during the season. The prospects for the coming season are very bright and we trust will prove as highly successful as the orevious one. —For the committee, W G. Whiteman, club captain; G. V. Greer, secretary.
