STATE THEATRE
A THRILLING PICTURE. At the State tonight will be shown “Tarzan’s Revenge,” a thrilling battle for love in which the principal roles are in the hands of Glen .Morris and Eleanor Holm, supported by George Barbier, Hedda Hopper, George Meeker and C. Henry Gordon. The many readers of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s novels who have followed the exploits of the mighty Tarzan will have real cause to thrill with delight as America’s two greatest athletes, Glenn Morris in the title role and Eleanor Holm as his costar, win their way, side by side, to a perfect love. The tall, handsome, lithe Tarzan portrayed by Morris, the world’s greatest athlete, easily proves why this star was able to break the ten-event record at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He uses every element of his championship skill as he battles his way through the fastnesses of deepest Africa with his mate, America’s glamour girl and an Olympic queen in her own right. Miss Holm, too, provides several suspenseful moments—notably where she outswims a score of live crocodiles in a jungle river. The story deals with the efforts of a wealthy retired middle-Westerner to provide live specimens for a zoo he has donated to his home town. Eleanor’s father (George Barbier) heads a safari on which he is accompanied by his wife (Hedda Hopper); his daughter Eleanor, her fiancee (George Meeker) and a valet. Long before she meets her Tarzan, Eleanor has aroused the interest of a fabulously wealthy African chieftain (C. Henry Gordon) who plots to kidnap her. Another exceptionally good picture on the programme is “Go Chase Yourself,” which should provide the audience with one long round of laughs.
