Mrs Tanner, Hastings, was a visitor to Masterton during the week. Miss E. McKenzie, Khandallah, Wellington, is staying with Miss McDougall, Pirinoa. Mrs Bodkin (South Island) has been the guest of Mrs A. F. Stewart, Essex Street, Masterton. Mrs Twistleton, Levin, is the guest of Mrs C. T. R. Richardson, The Terrace, Lansdowne. Mrs G. Sunderland, Perry Street, Masterton, is spending the weekend in Wellington. Mrs H. Thomas, Wellington, is staying with her sister, Mrs S. J. Gill, Cole Street, Masterton. Mrs G. Gilbert, Temuka, is staying with her mother, Dr Helen Cowie, Perry Street, Masterton. Mrs Stewart Petersen, of Oriental Bay, Wellington, is spending the weekend with Mrs F. Petersen, Essex Street, Masterton. Mr and Mrs W. lorns and the Misses 8., H. and J. lorns, who have been on a visit to England, are returning by the Mataroa, which will arrive in Auckland on October 6.
Born on the Wellington Town Belt 90 years ago, Mrs Francis Greer recently celebrated her birthday at the •Hall, Tawa Flat, where her family prepared a reception in her honour.,About 200 guests, among whom were many of Mrs Greer’s old friends, gathered from far and near. Mrs Greer is a daughter of Mr Stephen Pilcher, who arrived in New Zealand on August 29, 1840, by the Coromandel —the second immigrant ship to reach New Zealand —having left Gravesend on December 13, 1839. At the age of three years she moved with her parents to Tawa Flat, where in 1866 she married Mr Francis Greer, who carried on farming in that district and who was a lieutenant and drillinstructor in the militia. Mr Greer predeceased her 21 years ago. ! ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Bernice Eileen, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H. R. Tildesley, of Masterton, to John Francis, second son of Mrs and the late Mr F. W. Pointon, of Wellington, formerly of Masterton. MARTINBOROUGH (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr and Mrs George, Senr., Tawaha, are visiting Wanganui. Miss June Kent is visiting her sister at the Tiri Hospital. Mr B. Flynn (Wellington) is visiting his parents at Dyerville. Miss E. Beale (Masterton) is the guest of Mrs Brimble for the weekend.
