IMPROVED OUTLOOK
MEETING OF THE LEAGUE ASSEMBLY. SANCTIONS TO BE DISCUSSED. GENEVA, September 16. In view of the improvement in the situation, the League Assembly will meet today. The main discussion will be on Article Sixteen (sanctions). Mr Jordan (New Zealand) gave a luncheon to 500 delegates from 53 nations in honour of Dr Frank Buchman, founder of the Oxford Group. THE BRITISH VIEW EARL DE LA WARR’S STATEMENT TO DELEGATES (Recd This Day, 9.50 a.m.) GENEVA, September 16. Earl De La Warr is returning to London by air this afternoon, to attend the Cabinet meeting. Addressing delegates, he declared that Britain believes that members of the League should not be obliged to apply economic sanctions in the event of war.
