EFFECT OF THE AUSTRALIAN COAL STRIKE MINERS ISSUE CIRCULAR. THE ALLEGED ALTERNATIVES. (Recd This Day, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A circular setting out the reasons which induced the miners to declare a general strike states that the miners were faced with the alternatives of resistance or annihilation. Unemployment is steadily increasing as a result of the strike. There are now 20,000 idle miners, 2000 engine-drivers and 600 engineers, in addition to 400 maritime workers.
