SOMETHING FOR NOTHING
HON. R. SEMPLE DENOUNCES '' STRIKERS. SCROUNGING ON TAXPAYERS BARRED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. "People who want something for nothing have no friend in me. I am not going to allow anyone to scrounge on the taxpayers,” said the Hon R. Semple when referring to the action of some of : :hc men engaged on a Governor’s Bay job, who ceased work over the rate of wages paid. Mr Semple gave a clear indication that he had no sympathy with the decision of the men concerned and declared that he was satisfied that lhey had been ill-advised. They had just to think about their own position end thinking was with them not with him. The minister added that he had discussed the matter with the Minister of Labour, the Hen H. T. Armstrong and he agreed that they should get no sustenance. If the men thought they could scrounge on the nation they had made a big mistake. They were refusing something they should be pleased to accept, and were now voluntarily unemployed.
