“Moving to a Crisis.”

“The Government is hurrying on the election because events in this country are moving to a crisis,” declared Mr O. C. Mazengarb, National Party candidate for Wellington Suburbs, in an address at Upper Hutt last night. “Sterling funds are running short; money by the million has been sent to Australia. After the manner of Nero, who fiddled while Rome was burning, Mr Nash is still reading the Dairy Commission’s report while nearly all our internal prices are going up and up,” concluded Mr Mazengarb.

National Party Candidates. The Rev E. P. Aderman was last night selected as the official National Party candidate for the Dunedin South seat at the general election. A ballot to select the official National Party candidate to contest the Auckland Central seat at the forthcoming general election was held last night and resulted in the selection of Mr C. R. Dodd. The other nominee was Mr F. H. Hildreth. The seat is at present held by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry. Mr Dodd is accountant to the Auckland branch of the firm of J. K. Mooney and Company, Ltd. He was educated at Wellington College, continuing his studies in England for two years before returning to New Zealand. In 1935 as a Democrat candidate he unsuccessfully contested the Auckland Central seat.
