WEDDINGS
SEWARD—DUCKETT. The marriage took place at Knox Church, Masterton, on Saturday afternoon of Elsie Catherine Duckett, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs J. E. Duckett, of Rangitumau, and Frank Hewson Seward, eldest son of Mr and the late Mrs Seward, of Kelburn, Wellington. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. M. Simpson and Mr C. W. Kerry presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white flecked with silver, cut on classical lines, with a high neck-line and long sleeves, the skirt falling away to a slight train. The veil was held in place with a silver headband. Silver shoes were worn to match. The bride carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaids were Miss Hilda Seward (chief), sister of the bridegroom and Miss Joan Grey. They wore frocks of daffodil ripple georgette with brown velvet sashes and small coatees. Their shower bouquets were of lachenalia, freesias and wallflowers. The flower girl, Keitha Catheral, was dressed in green ripple georgette and carried a basket of flowers. The best man was Mr Robert Seward, brother of the bridegroom and the groomsman Mr John Duckett, brother of the bride. A reception was held at the Masonic Hall, where the guests were received by Mrs Duckett and Miss Seward. Mrs Duckett wore a floral ensemble with black hat and shoes and Miss Seward a navy ensemble with navy shoes and hat. The bride wore a biscuit-coloured travelling dress with brown coat, hat and accessories. Mr and Mrs Seward will reside in Masterton.
TRAPP—STUBBS. At the St Mark’s Church, Carterton, last evening, in the presence of a large congregation of friends and relations, hailing from all parts of the Wairarapa and from other centres, Miss Noeline Algar, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. F. Stubbs, of Carterton (and formerly of Grey town) was married to Henry Hilmar, elder son of Mr and Mrs H. M. B. Trapp (Carterton) and grandson of the late Mr and Mrs H. H. Wolters, pioneer settlers of the Carterton and Greytown districts. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride with spring bulbs, lilies, and sprays of wattle blossom. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked very charmin’g, being gracefully robed in a gown of heavy magnolia satin, beautifully cut, the skirt forming a long train. The embroidered veil to tone was held in place by an unusual coronet of cellophane and pearls. Her only ornament was a pearl pendant —over a hundred years old —which was lent for the occasion by the bridegroom’s mother. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaids were Miss Eleanor Stubbs (sister of the bride, chief), Miss Molly Smart (Carterton) and Miss Yvonne Larkin, of Wellington. They were dressed alike in daffodil yellow ripple georgette frocks with ruck bodices and long full skirts. Their halo hats were of forget-me-nots worn with powder blue veils. The bouquets were sheafs of yellow freesias, and forget-me-nots The best man was Mr I. J. Climo, of Wellington, while Messrs F. W. McTagget (Wellington) and Rex Lawrence (Carterton) attended as groomsmen. The ushers were Messrs G. S. George, Ross Hawker and Masters Gordon Stubbs and Joe Trapp. The Rev W. F. Stent, vicar of St Mark’s Church, was the officiating clergyman. One hymn, “O Perfect Love,” was sung, and as the bridal party left the church Mrs F. G. Bath played the Wedding March. A reception was afterwards held at the State Ballroom, a large number of guests being entertained. Mrs A. F. Stubbs, and Mrs H. M. B. Trapp received the guests. Mrs Stubbs wore a navy blue georgette gown, with hat to tone, and a white fox fur. Her posy was of anemones in red shades. Mrs Trapp, mother of the bridegroom, was attired in a model frock of mulberry lace and her black hat was trimmed with ospreys. The posy was of stocks and hyacinths in delicate lavender shades. A number of toasts were honoured enthusiastically, and included ' “The King,” “The bride and bridegroom” (proposed by the Rev W. F. Stent and responded to by the bridegroom); “The bridesmaids” (proposed by the bridegroom and responded to by Mr I. J. Climo); “The bridegroom’s parents” (proposed by Mr W. G. Lamb (Masterton) and response by Mr H. M. B. Trapp); “Bride’s grandmother, Mrs Stubbs, sen.” (proposed by Mr Gordon Hughan and replied to by her youngest grandchild); “The bride’s parents” (proposed by Mr J. L. Barnard (Greytown) and acknowledged by Mr A. F. Stubbs).
A number of congratulatory telegrams were received from friends throughout New Zealand, and included one from Mr Trapp’s associates in the Bank of New South Wales (Wellington) and the Wellington Football Club for whom Mr Trapp has played for several years past. The coach of the team, the ex-All Black, Mr Frank Kilby, also sent his congratulations. The handsome three-tiered wedding cake was then cut by the bride, and distributed to the many guests. The wedding cake was made by an old friend of the family, Mr A. C. Kennerley, of Levin, who many years ago had promised to perform this office whenever the occasion arose. The cake was iced and adorned in a professional manner, although Mr Kennerley only does such work as a hobby. Included among the guests were Mrs A. A dance was afterwards held for the young people, and the wedding guests stayed also. Udy’s Orchestra supplied the music. Mr and Mrs H. H. Trapp left during the evening on their honeymoon trip, the bride travelling in a French model of navy blue and white. With this she wore a handsome musquash fur coat. On Friday they will sail for Sydney where Mr Trapp has been appointed to a position at the head office of the Bank of New South Wales.
