MEETING OF MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL.
FIXING TRANSPORT A meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday, ffherc were present Messrs E. W. Cheetham (chairman), R. Judd, D. Bennett, A. Gray, A. Forsberg and C. Welch. The treasurer reported a debit balance of £378 Ils Id. Accounts were passed amounting to £440 12s. A letter regarding repairs required to a certain bridge was received from the solicitors of a settler. The Clerk (Mr A. W. G. Rollings) was directed to reply that the council could accept no liability in respect thereof. The Clerk reported that he had issued a building permit for the erection of a shed at Hastwell with the approval of the building inspector. His action was confirmed. i The Farmers’ Union advised that a meeting of local bodies would be held on September 14 to discuss a proposed agreement to fix a schedule of transport charges and requested a delegate to be appointed to attend, 'fhe chairman was appointed to represent the council.
Mr W. Lehmstedt gave notice to terminate his appointment as county ranger and Mr Cecil B. Seymour was appointed to the vacancy. Mr Lehmstedt’s appointment as poundkeeper was terminated and Mr Seymour was appointed to fill the. position. The Wellington City Council advised that Messrs A. J. Phillipps, G. Brown, J. C. D. Mackley and E. P. Norman had been appointed assessors in respect of the Wellington Local Bodies 1 Officers’ Industrial dispute at a conference at Palmerston North and requested the approval of the council, which was unanimously given.
The Clerk reported that application had been made for the sanction of the Local Bodies’ Loans Board to the raising of the requisite loan for the reconstruction of McKenzie’s Bridge and steps were being taken to procure the loan.
The Eketahuna Dental Clinic applied for a donation to its funds. It was decided that the council could make no grant. The overseer reported satisfactory progress of work during the past month and prospective work was discussed and arranged for.
