MAN INJURED
RUBBISH TRUCK PLUNGES INTO GARDEN. ACCIDENT IN CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. When a Heathcote County Council rubbish collection truck slipped off the road and fell several feet into a garden at the side of a residence in Hackthorne Road this morning, head injuries and a dislocated shoulder were suffered by James Murphy, who was working on the truck. Murphy was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, but his condition is not serious.
The brakes of the truck failed as it was going down a steep right-of-way and the vehicle became unmanageable and charged over a small stone wall and down a fifteen-foot bank into a garden, where it came to rest on its side. Still in the cab when the truck went over the bank was the driver, G. Michin, who scrambled out with no more serious injury than a slight scratch on his ear. Murphy was standing on the running board of the truck.
