A company of the Army Service Corps from Christchurch, comprising 100 officers and men, under Majoi - Foster, which is making a trek to the West Coast, arrived here yesterday afternoon, after a successful run across the ranges. The company was met by a large assemblage, the Mayor, Mr Perry, receiving the salute at a march past, and later was entertained at afternoon tea at the headquarters for the unit at the Soldiers’ Hall, and in an adjacent paddock. The visit caused much local interest. The convoy left this morning for Greymouth and other coast centres, and is to reach Christchurch, via the Lewis Pass, on Saturday next.
