A GOOD SEASON
MASTERTON-OPAKI RIFLE CLUB. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES AT ANNUAL MEETING. Extreme satisfaction at the success of the past season’s activities was expressed by the president, Mr H. H. Mawley at the annual meeting of the Masterton-Opaki Rifle Club on Saturday night. Mr Mawley spoke of the good attendances and the high standard of shooting throughout the season, and congratulated the winners of the various trophies, which were presented to, the ..winners by Mr G. Hyde. There was a large attendance of meinber’s and visitors at the meeting, which was followed by a social gathering. A suggestion by Mr R. V.’Mason that the club should compile a set of rules, which could be issued to all members met with unanimous approval. Mr Mason was appointed to draw up a rough set of rules, which are to be submitted to the executive for consideration. Subscriptions were fixed at the same sum as last year, but the markers’ fees were increased from 9d to Is. The first practice shoot will be held next Saturday, and the opening day may possibly be held a fortnight latej. A letter was received from the National Rifle Association containing particulars of the proposed formation of Sniper Platoons. It was decided to give the matter serious consideration. A recommendation is to be forwarded to the Wairarapa Rifle Association that Mr C. J. Nix represent the Wairarapa district on the' National Rifle Association. A suggestion that in future the annual meeting and social gathering be held on separate evenings was unanimously approved. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president, Mr Mawley for his invaluable work on behalf of the club throughout the year. Maunsell, W. N. Kummer, G. Shaw, J. Whiteman, A. W. Chapman, A. McDonald, and P. J. Borthwick; ammunition officer, Mr R. J. King; team selector, Mr J. McKenzie; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. H. Hill; handicapper, Mr R. J. King; auditor, Mr G. H. Murdoch; executive committee, Messrs D. S. Me-. Kenzie, R. J. King, H. K. Smith, C. Pickering, V. E. Donald, H. King, E. M. Wrigley.
Following the business of the meeting, Mr G. Hyde presented the following trophies:— Championship Shield, Mr H. King; Williams Rose Bowl, Mr W. N. Kummer; Donald Cup, Mr H. H. Mawley; Hood Cup, Mr R. V. Mason; Wrigley Rose Bowl, Mr R. V. Mason; Maunsell Cup, Mr D. P. Donald;; R. J. King Cup, Mr E. M. Wrigley; Minton Rose Bowl, Mr W. N. Kummer; Handicap Championship, Mr W. N. Kummer; H. K. Smith Tankard, Mr H. K. Smith; Kummer Cup, Mr W. Dornan.
