RADIOS PER HEAD
MASTERTON FIGURES HIGHEST IN NEW ZEALAND. NINETY PER CENT OF HOUSES EQUIPPED. Masterton leads all New Zealand towns in the proportion of radio receiving sets to population. According to the latest bulletin of the New Zealand Radio Traders’ Federation, received by local dealers today, the percentage of radio licences to population amounts to 27.99 in the case of Masterton, followed by Blenheim 27.18, Ashburton 26.45, Hamilton 23.97 and Wellington 23.57. Calculated on a basis of the number of houses in the town, this percentage of 27.99 means that over 90 per cent of the houses in Masterton are equipped with radios. Of the four main cities, Wellington leads with a percentage of 23.57, followed by Christchurch 20.89, Auckland 20.14 and Dunedin 19.42. National licence figures show that at the end of December 1937, New Zealand was fourth in the world for density of radios per 100 of population. -The national percentage was 17.42 for New Zealand, 18.35 for Great Britain and 18.99 for Denmark. The United States does not issue licences, but has a density of 20.433 radios per 100 of population, the highest in the world.
