WOMEN’S DIVISION
MEETING AT CARTERTON. (“Times-Age” 'Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mrs E. Allen presided. During the month the branch suffered a great loss in the death of Mrs P. Edwards, and sympathy is extended to members of her family; and also 'to all branch members who had suffered bereavements since the last meeting. It was stated that great interest is being taken in the visit of the Dominion President, Mrs Wickham, to Masterton on September 21. It was decided to hold a euchre and dance at Parkvale Hall on September 28. The results of monthly competitions were as follow: —Best bloom: Mrs Swan (stock), 1; Mrs Allen (marigold), 2. Best shrub: Mrs Allen (camelia), 1; Mrs Taplin, 2. Madiera cake: Mrs Swan, 1. Members of the Drama Circle entertained those present with a humorous playette, “Runaway Wives,” which was very well presented and warmly applauded. The meeting concluded with afternoon tea, the hostesses being Mesdames J. Taplin, C. Jensen, Hicks and Misses N. and P. Renall. SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. HELD IN MASTERTON. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held a most successful shop day at their rooms, King Street, on Wednesday. The stall-holders were as follows:— Jumble, Mesdames Barrer and Eng.strom; produce, Mesdames A. Donald, A. B. Cottle and Ross; cakes, Mesdames Wright and Burling. A cake, donated by Mrs J. McLean, was won by Mrs Rutherford (No. 45 ticket).
The division extends its thanks to all who assisted with money and goods or who helped in any way to make the sale such a success.
RANGITUMAU MEETING. (“Times-Age”' Special.) The monthly meeting of the Rangitumau branch was held on Thursday last. Mrs D. James presided over a good attendance of members. There were some interesting competitions held which resulted as follows: —Single bloom, Mrs Duckett, 1. Collection of three blooms, Mrs Duckett, 1. Bowl of flowers, Mrs C. Macdonald, 1. Jar of marmalade, Mrs Duckett, 1. Movie star competition, Miss F. Wrigley., A pleasant feature of the afternoon was a presentation to Miss E. Duckett to mark the occasion of her approaching wedding. On behalf of the members the president, Mrs James, expressed appreciation of the part Miss Duckett had played in the branch’s activities, and asked her to accept a handsome crystal bowl accompanied by their very best wishes. Miss Duckett suitably replied.
