MARTINBOROUGH

CHAMPIONSHIP BALL (“Times-Age” Special.) The championship ball of the Martinborough Football Club was an outstanding social feature of the season, and a most enjoyable time was spent by the large number of people present from all over the Wairarapa. The function was excellently organised and controlled. During the evening the trophies won during the season were presented by Mr C. W. Skill (Mayor), as follow:—A. Hamilton, most improved back (medal), N. McKay, best forward (cup), J. Edwards, best back (cup), J. Mahaupuka, special for best all round play (cup), J. Jeffreys, most improved forward (cup), J. Arcus, improved forward (medal), J. Harley, best all round player (cup),. Mr F. Harley, third grade coach, was presented with a medal by the team. Swimming Baths. Mrs R. Burch presided at a meeting called by the Home and School Association for the purpose of discussing the desirability of providing swimming baths in the Borough. A motion was carried affirming the necessity for providing baths in Martinborough. Following a thorough discussion the following committee was appointed to further the matter:-*-Mes-srs Skill, Lawrence, Lynch, Cotter, Boyd, Brimble, Pryor, Johns, Hancox, Ussher, McCardle, Grant, Simpson, Hamilton, Corfield, Wright, Amos, McGillicuddy, Morrison and Plummer, Mesdames Burch, Caseley, Chapman, Jamieson, Wright, Beveridge, Misses Smith and Alpe. It was decided that the Borough Council be asked to procure an estimate for the baths. The Mayor donated £2 towards the proposal. An investigation committee consisting of Messrs C. W. Skill (chairman),’ A. Brimble, S. Boyd, R. Lawrence, J. Pryor, and S. Ussher (secretary) was appointed to procure all data as to cost of construction and subsequent upkeep and place before a general meeting on September 28. Votes of thanks to Mrs R. Burch and Miss I. Smith was carried by acclamation.
