SHEARERS’ PAY
HIGHER RATES FOR HAND WORK. DECISION IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, September 9. In the Federal Arbitration Court today, Chief Judge Dethbridge delivered judgment, on a claim for wage increases for shed hands and cooks and a reduction of hours from 52 to 48 weekly for station hands. Hand shearers were granted Is a hundred more than the rate provided for machine shearers, who will continue to receive the existing wage of 35s a hundred. The judge said that the pastoral industry was passing through difficult times due to drought, disturbed overseas conditions, and wool substitutes.
