STRIKE VIOLENCE
CLASHES IN SAN FRANCISCO. DOZEN PERSONS INJURED. SAN FRANCISCO, September 9. Violence broke out along the picket lines as a strike began today against 35 department stores located in the heart of the city. A dozen persons, including a store executive, were slightly injured in a series of clashes which resulted from the pickets’ jeering at non-strikers.
Five pickets were arrested. Mounted police were forced to ride along the sidewalks to restore order. A fantastic touch was contributed by one of the largest shops, which gave low-heeled shoes to its own striking employees, explaining that they would be more comfortable on the picket line.
