DYNAMITE DEMAND
MAN TRIES TO HOLD UP BANK IN NEW YORK FAINTS WHEN DETECTIVES RUSH IN. FOUND TO BE CARRYING STOCK OF EXPLOSIVES. By Telegraph —Press Association. Copyright. NEW YORK, September 8. A mild-appearing, little man walked into a large mid-town bank during the height of the afternoon crowd today and patiently awaited his turn at the manager’s desk. He then placed on it a large satchel and whispered to the manager: “I have got a bottle of nitro-glycerine up my sleeves and enough dynamite in this bag to blow up the bank. If I don’t get 30,000 dollars, I will do it.” The manager agreed and pretended to go to the vault to obtain the money. Instead, he telephoned for the police. When the detectives rushed, the dynamiter fainted and the police carried him off to hospital. They found 34 sticks of dynamite and 46 percussion caps in the bag. A, bottle of dark liquid, not explosive, was also found.
