FEATHERSTON

FIRE BRIGADE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) ■ At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Fire Brigade, Supt., T. Tidswell presided over a large muster of members. The Upper Hutt Brigade forwarded an invitation to attend their annual smoko. The U.F.B.A. advised that competitions and conferences were to be held at Wanganui in 1939. The secretary of the ball committee reported a credit of £2O Os 3d. The brigade wishes to sincerely thank the very willing ladies’ committee who so ably carried out their duties and assisted to make the ball the outstanding success socially and financially that it was. Thanks are also given to the many local tradespeople and members of the community who assisted financially and in kind. A car suitable for converting into a fire engine was offered to the brigade at a very low price by Fireman Skipage. The offer was accepted with thanks. Members of the brigade have enthusiastically taken up the work of converting the car to the brigade’s requirements. When finished it will be a’ decided asset to the brigade, and will encourage members in the voluntary work they so willingly perform. The old engine is far past its usefulness. A church parade will be held this month at the Methodist Church. It was decided to provide some members with uniforms and caps. This will bring the brigade up to full strength as regards uniforms. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council to have the brigade shed extended to accommodate the new engine. Card Tournament.
