ACCIDENT AT MAKURI

FALL OF EARTH CRUSHES WORKMAN BREAKS BOTH HIS HIPS As the result of a fall of earth in one of the cuttings at Makuri on Tuesday, the headman of the No. 12 co-operative party, Mr W. G. Turner, was crushed. Both his hips were broken, and his right knee cap injured. Mr Turner, who is a married man, 54 years of age, resides in Pahiatua. It appears that another worker saw the slip coming down and called out to him, but Mr Turner could not get clear. Only about three cubic yards of limestone rock and soil fell away from the bank. Mr Turner was admitted to the Pahiatua Hospital, and today was conveyed to the Wellington Hospital for treatment.
