■ REMAINING TIME OF ENTRY SHORT. POSTAL & ABSENTEE VOTES. In view of the probability of the General Election being held earlier than usual —October 19 oi- 26 are the dates on which attention is being focused —electors, if their names are not already on the roll, are advised to ensure that they are placed on the supplementary roll, which will close immediately the writ is issued. The Electoral Act provides for the writ being issued only when Parliament rises. All persons 21 years of age, and who have been resident in the electoral district three months, are eligible to vote. Persons who become 21 after the issue of the writ are not entitled to vote by declaration. An elector who is able to satisfy the deputy returning officer in his electorate that he cannot conveniently vote there on election day may obtain an absent voter’s permit. Travellers who may be leaving for Australia before the issue of the writ should make application to the returning officer of their electorate, who will forward them a- printed form of application for completion. They should send their address in Australia to the returning officer, and the necessary voting certificates will be forwarded to them after the writ is issued. A postal voting certificate and postal ballot paper can be issued only after the issue of the writ, and must be posted to the returning officer to reach him before the close of the poll. Persons who are visiting Australia and who are unable to make formal application before they leave New Zealand are advised to call on the 1 New Zealand Government officers in Sydney and Melbourne.
