MASTERTON SALE

INCREASE IN HEAVY EWE PRICES. PRIME WETHERS FIRM. The New Zealand Farmers Co-op Distributing Company Limited, offered a large penning of fat sheep and smaller entries of store sheep and cattle at Masterton yesterday. Prime wethers were firm at late rates. Heavy ewes were up about 2s a head. Hoggets sold at prices about on a par with those ruling last week. The following are some of our realisations. Piime wethers, 25s 9d to 27s 3d; lighter to 25s 3d; prime heavy ewes, 18s 6d to 19s 6d; ewe hoggets, 22s 3d to 255; medium wether hoggets, 16s 3d; cull, 13s 6d; store cows, £1 10s to £2 15s; light porkers, £2 10s; weaner pigs, 22s to 245.

N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE CO. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co Ltd report: A fair yarding of sheep, and the advertised entry of cattle were submitted to a moderate attendance of the public. The store sheep section comprised mostly hoggets, prices for which remained at about par with last week’s sale. The store cattle met with fair competition whilst a few fats penned sold extremely well after good competition. Weaner pigs, of which there Was a fair entry,

were slightly easier in value. We quote: Sheep: Light fat ewes, 17s 6d; fat wethers, 27s 6d; good w.w. hoggets. 18s 6d, 19s 7d; good b.f. hoggets, 17s 6d; medium w.w hoggets, 12s Id to 17s 7d; medium ewe hoggets, 21s; store ewes, fwd condition, 9s 6d. Cattle: Fat Hereford cow, light, £7; fat P.A. heifers, £9 ss; store P.A. cows, £4 2s; store Hereford cows, £4 3s; store cows, ex-dairy, £2 6s, £2 12s Gel; vealers, ex-dairy (small), £l, £1 7s 6d; potter bulls, £6 2s 6d, £7 15s. Pigs: Weaners. best, £l, 19s, small 17s 6d. WRIGHT, STEPHENSON AND CO. Wright, Stephenson and Co, Ltd, report: We held our weekly sale at Masterton yesterday when a fair entry of stock was offered to a moderate attendance. Fat sheep met with fair enquiry and prices were firmer. Store sheep were about the same. Cattle sold at par rates. The following are our prices: Ewe hoggets (good), 29s 3d; small ewe hoggets, 20s; b.f. 2-ths, 22s 6d; 2-th wethers, 23s 6d to 24s 6d; store cows, 38s to 455; heifers on drop, £6; unbroken 3-yr filly, £l7; unbroken 2-yr gelding, £2O 10s.
