STOCK MARKET

ADDINGTON SALE LITTLE CHANGE IN SHEEP PRICES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 7. The entries of fat sheep at the weekly stock market at Addington today were considerably smaller than last week, and prices for best lines were a shade better, with others unaltered. In the store sheep there was little change in values, and a line of wether hoggets brought 14s 3d to 14s 7d. A pen of ewe hoggets made 13s 7d; older sorts, 18s. Ewes and lambs sold relatively well, one pen made Ils Id to Ils 6d, all counted. There was little demand for any class sheep, particularly forward wethers. The fat sheep entry was slightly more than 4000, but quality was lacking, the big proportion being rough and unfinished. Sheep values settled down at very little change from last week as the sale proceeded, and a few outstanding pens of ewes and wethers rose by Is a head, but no quotable change was made in other classes. Prices were: — Sheep: Extra prime wethers made to 35s 4d; prime, 29s 6d to 325; prime medium, 25s to 28s 6d; others, down to 20s; extra prime ewes, 28s Id; prime, 20s to 245; prime medium, 16s 6d to 19s; others, down to 11s. The fat cattle entry met quite a sound demand for good and medium quality, although at distinctly lower values. Rates on last week decreased, and the price averaged about 20s. Good beef made to 41s a 1001 b; tops, to 435; heavy, 35s to 395; secondary, 34s to 365; rough, down to 275; extra prime steers, to £l9 12s 6d; prime, £l5 15s to £l7 ss; prime medium, £l4 to £l6; light, £lO 10s; extra prime heifers, £l4 2s 6d; prime, £ll to £l2; medium, £9 5s to £lO 15s; light, £9; extra prime cows, £l4 12s 6d; prime, £94os to £lO ss; medium, £7 5s to £9; light, £6 15s. The entry of fat pigs was scarcely sufficient for butchers’ requirements. Choppers in medium supply again met with good competition. Baconers came forward in heavier numbers and values receded 2s to 3s a head, except for first quality choppers, which made £3 Is to £7 Is; porkers, 39s 6d to £3 12s 6d, and the average price a lb was 7Jd to BJd; baconers, £3 14s 6d to £5 9s 6d, and the average price a lb was 7d to 7?d. VALUES AT JOHNSONVILLE CATTLE PRICES FIRM (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. At the Johnsonville stock sale a large yarding of cattle and a larger yarding of sheep than usual were offered. No prime bullocks came forward, the yarding consisting chiefly of medium weight, with a few pens of light and unfinished cattle. With the exception of plain bullocks all other classes met with a ready sale at prices firm on those ruling last week. The cows and heifers were of .good quality, showing no alteration on last week’s rates. An exceptionally good line of runners was yarded which met with keen competition at prices slightly higher than those ruling up-country. The yarding of wethers was of indifferent quality, only a few pens of heavy-weight sheep coming forward, the balance of the yarding consisting of light prime black-face two-tooths, with a few pens of unfinished wethers. All prime quality wethers met with a steady sale, with prices showing no alteration, while unfinished wethers were not sought after. A keen sale resulted for ewes, with little alteration in prices. There was, a good demand for hoggets, with prices firm. Realisations were: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l6 to £l5; prime heavy bullocks, £l4 18s to £l4 ss; heavy bullocks, £l3 18s to £l3 ss; light and unfinished bullocks, £l2 16s to £ll ss. Extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £l2 2s 6d to £ll 10s, prime heavy cows and heifers, £ll 5s to £9 18s; cows and heifers, £9 5s to £7 7s; runners, £5 12s 6d to £4 15s; small calves, £1 to 10s. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, 33s 4d to 29s 8d; prime heavy wethers, 29s 2d to 28s 6d; medium wethers, 27s 6d to 24s 8d; prime extra heavy ewes, 25s 6d to 23s 8d; prime heavy ewes, 23s 6d to 21s lOd; medium ewes, 20s to 17s 6d; heavy hoggets, 27s 2d to 24s 6d; light hoggets, 21s 6d to 18s 3d.
