GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last, night. Members present were: Mr 11. G. Carter (chairman), Mrs W. J. Knell (secretary), Messrs F. Dennes (treasurer), E. Graham, H. Bassett, J. D. Morison, W. G. K. Wiggins, and the headmaster, Mr H. E. Webster. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. W. Herod. A vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr D. P. Loasby. Advice was received that 12 new chairs and typewriter tables would be forwarded. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £7 10s 2d. A credit balance of £33 13s 3d was reported. The secretary was instructed to enquire from the Education Board if a child who reached the age of 5 years this term and attended school now would be insured against accident. Advice was received that the Education Board had given permission for traffic officers to enter schools for the purpose of giving instruction in road safety. A copy of rules for departmental bus services was received. The headmaster stated that these regulations were being carried out. The following appointments were notified:—Miss D. H. McKenzie, B.H.Sc., Inspector of Home Science; Mrs M. A. Boocock, Supervisor of Domestic Subjects. The resignation of Mrs E. McPhee from the staff was accepted with regret. The present roll is:—Primary, 295, Secondary, 45. It was reported that four pupils had left the secondary department, all having secured employment. Golf Championships. The semi-finals of the golf championships will be played during the weekend. Personal. Mr and Mrs G. S. Maloney, of McMaster Street, have returned from a holiday spent at Gisborne. Whilst away Mrs Maloney had the misfortune to sprain her ankle. The flags on the Borough Council Chambers and South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club are flying at half-mast out of respect to the memory of the late Mr D. P. Loasby.
