The Alexandria correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says it is asserted that it was a young Syrian law student who attempted to assassinate King Farouk. He was seen to stand up on a balcony as the King was leaving the swimming club at which he had been presenting swimming prizes. The Syrian chaffeur knocked up his arm and the shot went wide. The man was arrested and charged with the possession of a firearm. A warrant was also issued for the arrest of his father. Crowds later cheered the King at the Palace.
