MINIATURE RIFLES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following scores were registered by members of the South Featherston Miniature Rifle Club on Thursday evening:—J. Bain, 100; M. Hodder, 100; L. G. Rasmussen, 99; C. Bain, 99; A. Yule, 98; R. Yule, 98; P. Wilton, 97; A. Gain, 97; Miss Cross, 97; Mrs Fenwick, 97; Jim Burt, 99; P. Gain, 97. The final shoot for the championship resulted in a win for C. Bain, who defeated L. Rasmussen. The cup final will be shot off next Tuesday evening. The cup finalists are: —Ladies: Mrs Fenwick, Mrs Lumsden, Mrs Willis. Men: D. Thurston, J. Bain, D. Fenwick, L. Hodder. Boys: T. Gain, C. Rasmussen, A. Burt. The semi-finals and finals will be shot off on Tuesday night. PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston branch of the Plunket Society there were present—Mesdames Q. Donald (president), G. Yule, R. W. Matthews. G. S. Sharp, J. G. McKenzie, J. R. Matthews, A. S. Kilsby, and J. A. Halpin. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames N. C. C. Shepherd, R. N. Barton, Arch. Clark, H. R. Bloxam, Algar Williams, M. Turner, V. Bergh, J. Willett and R. S. Keenan. Receipts since last meeting £l2 16s; cash in hand, £lO9 19s 2d. The McCarthy Trustees forwarded a cheque for £lO, and advised that with the next application particulars of the amount contributed to the Society’s funds during the year by the parents receiving attention must be supplied. A talk to mothers will be given by the nurse at the rooms on- September 16. The following is the nurse’s report: Number of cases attended since the society started, 800 number of babies under supervision, 80; number of preschool children under supervision, 29; number of new cases for month: 2 babies (breastfed), 2 babies (artificially fed), 1 transferred from another district, 1 over 9 months; visitors to rooms, adults 25, babies 25, pre-school children; visits to homes, Featherston 51, country 32; miles travelled 321. Country districts visited: South Featherston, Kaiwaiwai, Pihautea, Pukio, Kahutara, Western Lake, Pigeon Bush, Martinborough, Otaraia, Dyerville, Pirinoa, Lower Valley. Personal Items. Mr Norman Vickers, Taihape, was a weekend visitor to Featherston. Miss Margaret Merlet, who has been spending the holidays with her mother, Mrs Merlet, has returned to Wellington. Miss Maureen Nix, daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Nix, Tauherenikau, has been engaged by the J. C. Williamson’s “Balalaika” Company for the 11 weeks’ New Zealand tour.
