4 , PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Evans, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs R. Rangi, has returned to her home at the Lower Hutt. Owing to the illness of the teachers at the local school, Miss Foster, formerly of the Waiorongomai School, is temporarily relieving. Mr and Mrs H. Cowan, Gladstone, were visitors here for the weekend. Mr Emery, who was the guest of Mr and Mrs Swafnson, Lake Ferry, has returned to Palmerston North. Queen Carnival. There was a large attendance at the local hall on Saturday evening, when a concert organised by the local Natives in aid of the funds of the queen candidate was given. The songs, poi dances, musical and instrumental items were exceedingly well received, and altogether the concert was a general success. A dance was held after the concert. Green and Gold Ball. The Green and Gold Ball held annually under the auspices of the M.I.A. will be held in the Pirinoa Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 14. The ball, as in past years, promises to be a great success and preparations have been in progress for some time. The decorations and ’ supper arrangements, which in previous years, were the subject of much admiration, will again be a feature of the ball. The floor is to receive a special preparation and the music for the evening will be supplied by Udy’s band. Another special feature of the evening will be the crowning of the Queen of the Green and Gold Ball. Patrons are assured of a most enjoyable evening. Particulars appear in the advertising columns. Whitebait Catch. It is reported that a fairly large catch of whitebait was made at the Lake Ferry recently. Bad Weekend Weather. Extremely bad weather was experienced in the district' during the weekend. A strong southerly wind accompanied by heavy rain made conditions most unpleasant. Mortality among young stock was fortunately low.
