SOCCER IN AUSTRALIA
INDIAN TEAM DEFEATED SYDNEY, September 3. Combining brilliant play in defence and attack with ability to seize, scoring chances when offering, Australia beat India by 5 goals to 3 in the first Soccer test on Saturday. There were plenty of thrills, with fine individual play by the Indians, whose inside forwards unfortunately failed to make use of scoring opportunities. The attendance was 16,500. N.Z. SCHOOLBOYS WIN AGAINST VICTORIA MELBOURNE, September 4. The New Zealand schoolboy Soccer players, who are so far undefeated on their Australian tour, were too strong and fast for the Victorians, winning by four goals to nil. Their approach work was something the Victorian boys had not seen before. The New Zealanders kept attacking continuously, especially in the second half when they had the wind with them. But for good work by the Victorian goalie, Howard, the New Zealanders would have doubled their score. The visitors’ outstanding players were Taylor, Yeoman and Davey, full-back. The latter robbed +he Victorians of all likely scoring efforts. The scorers for New Zealand were Yeoman (2), Irvine, and Paul.
