SOUTH AFRICA DEFEATSBRITAIN PLAY AT PORT ELIZABETH PORT ELIZABETH, September 3. In the second Rugby Test today, South Africa, beat Britain, 19-3. Owing to the sweltering heat, the early play was lifeless. The British team won the opening scrums, but the halves <were not combining well and failed to start movements. Taylor missed two penalties from 40 yards. The South Africans began getting the ball more. Bergh brilliantly picked up and started a run. De Wet passed over the line, but the try was disallowed as he held on when tackled. Grieve, fielding a kick from Bester, narrowly missed a drop goal. Bergh broke through from the lineout and sent to Du Toit, who scored under the posts. Turner converting. Reynolds collided with Apsen and was absent from the field when Lochner broke away to score under the posts. Turner converted. The score at half-time was 10-0. , South Africa scored a minute after the resumption when Craven, from the blind side of the scrum and 30 yards from the British line, passed to Bester, who scored in the corner. The try was not converted. The South Africans frequently started splendid movements which the British team resisted grimly. Grieve made many fine saves. Turner (South Africa) kicked two penalty goals, and Duff (Britain), scored an unconverted try in the last few minutes.
