OBITUARY
MR CECIL KEBBELL. The death occurred at Alfredton yesterday of Mr Cecil Kebbell, of “Te Hoe,” one of the oldest and most respected residents of the district, where he had lived for over fifty years. The late Mr Kebbell, who was 72 years of age, had taken a keen interest in the district’s progress throughout his long residence at Alfredton. He was born in Wellington and married in Masterton Miss Mary Christina Cameron. Mr Kebbell was a leading member of St Aiden’s Church, occupying the positions of vicar’s warden and secretary and was one of the church’s staunchest supporters. For many years he was a member of the Masterton County Council, at the time when his property was included in the boundaries of the Masterton County. Mr Kebbell was president of • the Alfredton Rifle Club and president of the.'Alfredton Golf Club, in both of which he took a keen interest. For a period of two years during the war he was a voluntary Red Cross worker and ambulance driver in France. He was elected a member of the Masterton Club in 1887 and had been associated with the club ever since. Mr Kebbell is survived by a widow, a son, Mr M. A. Kebbell, of Ashhurst, and two daughters, Mesdames D. Hinde, of Kenya, Africa, and Arthur Strutt, of Derby,' England, besides a brother, Mr Richard Kebbell, of Lower Hutt. The funeral will take place tomorrow. A service will be held at St Aiden’s Church, Alfredton, at 12.15 p.m. and the funeral will proceed to the Masterton Cemetery, arriving there at 2.30 p.m. MR D. P. LOASBY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital this morning of Mr David P. Loasby, J. P., a well-known and highly respected resident of the district. The late Mr Loasby, who was 88 years of age, was born in Australia, and had resided in Greytown for many years. Formerly in had a bootshop in the town, but for the past 18 years he had been a successful fruit farmer. The late Mr Loasby was associated with a ( large number of societies and local bodies in the district. He was a past grand master of the New Zealand Odd Fellows lodge and a past master of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a foundation member of the Greytown Presbyterian Church, mayor of the town for 12 years, chairman of the Permanent Investment Society, chairman of the Greytown Fruit Company, chairman of Greytown Town Lands Trust, a director of the Greytown Picture Company, a vice-president of the Wairarapa South Trotting Club, local representative of the Wairarapa , Patriotic Socity,.. a life member of., the Greytown Bowling Club, secretary of the South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club, a position which he filled for about 40 years, and a member of. the old Hospital committee. The late Mr Loasby is survived by a widow, a daughter, Dorothy, of Wellington, and a son, Lauri, who is a pilot with Union Airways.
